Our Achievements
Throughout the past year of our project we have accomplished many tasks which have allowed us to promote our project and educate others. Through research we developed our area of concern that we found to be very applicable to our community through statistics, and in our personal experiences. This page will be constantly updated so you can follow us as we progress on our project.
- We developed a project name- EduEat and a logo that could help others identify our project. We also developed business cards, which we planned to distribute when we went to market places and schools. We prepared a survey aimed at the year 7’s, which aimed to allow us to gain a deeper understanding into girls’ knowledge of reading food labels, nutrition and healthy eating.
- We created handmade Bandana’s, which were distributed in the Year 7 Food Technology classes, and were worn with their hair nets and aprons. These were a big success amongst the grade as they were very excited to be wearing something no other grade has ever worn.
- We created a nutrition worksheet which was distributed in the Year 7 Food Technology classes, and was done to educate the year 7’s, but also to gain data for us. We wanted to see if there was any difference between the first survey we distributed in Term 1, to this worksheet we distributed in Term 2.
- We developed a competition titled the Family Bake-off which was aimed at the year 7 cohort. This activity aimed to challenge the group to create a breakfast muffin that was healthy- but also met the criteria of being easy to make, being tasty and having less than 5 ingredients. This initiative was a great way to educate our community on our project, as we promoted the competition on the digital signage throughout our school.
- To make our school community more aware of our project, we put up fact posters on digital signage, which contained tips and facts about maintaining good nutrition and examples of nourishing foods around the school with our project logo. During this time, we also launched brochures, which were created to be handed at schools and shopping facilities- with the intention to give similar facts and tips that the fact posters had- but also provided information about our project and what our aim was.
- We have launched our Instagram page, and recently launched our EduEat website. The Instagram page is where we mostly promote activities that are going on in our school community- as a large portion of the followers are of Year 7/8 students. The website however, is aimed more toward the wider community and is place that talks about our project and the people involved- rather than promoting things that are going on in our school.
- We presented a segment on SkyNews, in which we were interviewed and filmed. We spoke about the importance of nutrition, our project, what Future Problem Solving is and we even baked muffins for them! The SkyNews segment was a great way for us to promote our project and reach a larger community
- We spoke on 2GB - a popular radio show. On this interview we spoke more about what our project is and the significance of healthy eating. The radio show brought in new followers on our Instagram, and made a greater amount of people aware of our project.
- We visited St Bernadette's primary school and spoke their year 6 cohort about nutrition and healthy living. We visited them because we realised that it is vital to raise awareness about the necessity of nutrients before high-school. The year 6 cohort fit perfectly into our age bracket (11-13 year olds), which is why we decided to visit them.
- We were featured in the Sunday Telegraph, which is an Australian newspaper. Two of our team members (Sam and Danielle) spoke to a journalist at the Sunday Telegraph, and subsequently were featured in a column on their 2/3/19 issue. Sam and Danielle spoke about how EduEat is making an impact on our Mount St Benedict college community.
